Hranich Breaking the Gate pastel 15x 12.jpg

Elaine Hranich

I was born and raised in a small coastal town in New Jersey and raised my family in the central farmland area of the state before moving to Maine over 20 years ago. I retired from a lengthy career at IBM in 2021.

Living in Maine I am inspired to capture the beauty of the natural surroundings. You can find me plein air painting during warmer months. In winter I paint from my home studio, in oil, acrylic, watercolor and pastels. I would like those who view and collect my work to feel the energy I capture in each piece.

My first painting workshop was in California in the late 70s. Since moving to Maine, I have taken multiple workshops from established painters throughout New England and continue to enjoy experimenting on my own. I love to work on wood and with palette knives to give my paintings more texture and substance and have been expanding my skill set to include wood carving.

I’ve shown my work for years in many locations throughout the Midcoast. I’m a member of Sebacodegan Artists Gallery in Harpswell, the Pastel Society of Maine, the Vermont Watercolor Society and ACFE. My work is in many collections worldwide.
